XPeng unveils G9 electric SUV with X-PILOT 4.0 ADAS autopilot

At the Guangzhou International Auto Show, China, one of the leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, XPeng Motors, unveiled an electric SUV that received the G9 designation. This will be the fourth production car of the company.

The brand’s first electric vehicle was the 2018 crossover under the G3 badge, followed by the P7 electric sedan in 2019 and the P5 sedan introduced this year, which is positioned as a competitor. Tesla Model 3, but at a more affordable price. when XPeng Motors unveiled a full electric SUV badged as the G9. The design of the car is made in a minimalist style, which has already become a good tradition for electric SUVs.

The G9 car was created on the proprietary platform and is based on the new architecture XPeng X-EEA 3.0, which combines software provision, equipment and communication facilities for an electric vehicle into a single complex. The platform update will be delivered over the air (FOTA) and will take only 30 minutes. The G9 is powered by the new XPower 3.0 unit, which supports 800 V fast charging, allowing the batteries to be recharged in 5 minutes, sufficient to travel 200 km. The energy efficiency of the recharging system is 95%.

The G9 SUV will also receive the latest XPILOT 4.0 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), which is as close as possible to a full-fledged autopilot. The system is based on two NVIDIA Tegra Orin-X processors, two LiDAR units built directly into the headlights of a car. According to the developers, the new G9 SUV was developed immediately for the Chinese and global market and meets the highest requirements of the C-NCAP and E-NCAP safety standards, as well as the European Union WVTA vehicle certification standards.

Traditional electric vehicle specifications such as autonomous driving range, battery capacity, interior design and price were not presented for the G9 at the Guangzhou exhibition. The company is expected to reveal more details as it approaches the launch of the car in mass production, which is scheduled for the third quarter of 2022.
