LUMI is a powerful supercomputer to be built by Hewlett Packard Enterprise. It will be built in Finland and will be one of the fastest machines of its kind in mid-2021. LUMI will receive AMD EPYC Milan series processors as well as the latest Instinct GPUs.
LUMI will become one of the most powerful supercomputers in mid-2021, with a performance of over 375 petaflops and up to 550 petaflops at its peak. Currently the most powerful supercomputer is Japan’s Fugaku, which has an average power of 415 petaflops. The computer will be based on the HPE architecture called Cray EX.
LUMI will launch in the second half of next year. EuroHPC JU believes that it will then become one of the five fastest supercomputers in the world. The device will be large and is expected to cover an area of 150 square meters. This is roughly the size of a tennis court.
